RAVEN INDUSTRIES – CORPORATION
Sustainability is a call to leadership. For Raven, it represents great potential and a mandate that goes well beyond environmental stewardship. It’s about our approach to long-term growth. After much research, planning, and implementation, Raven has embarked upon a journey that integrates sustainability with our operations and values in some very specific ways. The effort is a natural extension of an approach to doing business that has made our customers, partners, and communities successful for six decades — and will help drive success for the next six decades and beyond.
RESPONSIBILITY MEETS OPPORTUNITY
Sustainability fits seamlessly into our culture and operations. Since 1956, we have served our customers and grown not because we were interested in short-term gain, but because we have always sought to build for the long term and to do the right thing. The guiding principles we developed to these ends were a natural prelude to our embrace of sustainability. It’s our strategy to aggressively compete on quality, value, innovation, and peak performance. And we strive for continuous improvement while making corporate responsibility a top priority. Sustainability encompasses all these values simultaneously.
RAVEN’S APPROACH TO SUSTAINABILITY
Our approach to sustainability is demonstrated through continual improvement of our operations, products, and the actions of our team members — advancing stewardship of the environment, our communities, and the growth of tomorrow.
RAVEN ENGINEERED FILMS – SUSTAINABILITY
SUSTAINABLE PRODUCT FOCUS
For over 60 years, Raven Engineered films has manufactured and fabricated high-quality film and sheeting to support the unique markets we serve while working to solve great challenges by protecting earth's resources and maintaining asset value for our customers and team members. Our sales and engineering professionals support and understand the critical demands of our target industries and are dedicated to developing product solutions that not only solve precise application challenges, but integrate sustainable long-range accountability into product design.
Our operational facilities include seven locations that span across a 730,618 sq.ft. footprint, and house the very latest in state-of-the-art equipment and development programs. This includes blown and cast film/sheeting, lamination/coating, conversion capabilities in addition to an impressive accredited testing and development facility. All Raven products developed and produced in our South Dakota and Texas facilities are manufactured in a quality-controlled environment under our stringent ISO 9001 certified management system to assure we achieve complete customer satisfaction and continuous improvement in all phases of our business. Our recently acquired facilities located in Colorado and California are operationally compliant with our internal quality control standards and are targeted to start preparation in attaining ISO 9001 certification soon.
At Raven, our entire team takes the responsibility of protecting the environment, decreasing consumption, energy, and waste seriously and the efforts of our work reflect this on a daily basis. We are fully committed to creating and designing sustainable product solutions, and internally house a reclamation facility to substantially cut and reduce waste that would otherwise be discarded in our local landfill. We continue to review and implement key programs and methodologies within our operations to capture, recycle and reuse excess polymers and scrap materials in-line with our green initiatives.
Raven products are produced under our strict quality conformance's, precision extrusion processes, and are value engineered to exceed first-in-class standards in the plastic film and sheeting industry. Our manufacturing goal is to build extremely durable and functional products, with a high strength-to-weight ratio. Through lower-weight, higher-strength products we accomplish a reduction in raw resources, energy consumption, and attain our overall goal of lower transportation and installation costs.
Raven manufactures wide-width master rolls, large prefabricated geomembrane liners and covers, and consumer size converted rolls to meet customer needs. Large prefabricated panels in finished product form can save substantial resources on-site for the end user by requiring considerably less time, labor and energy to transport and install the final product. We take pride in consistently delivering quality containment solutions, quick response times, and targeted product performance through a broad range of film and sheeting options.
Our pursuit to help solve great challenges by matching our capabilities to our customer’s needs through high-quality value-added products designed to meet precise requirements. Raven Engineered Films serves five unique market segments and within those industries, we design products for multiple end-use applications. Outlined below are some examples of how our products can help to solve great challenges in everyday applications.
RAVEN OXYGEN BARRIER SILAGE COVERS – FEEDFRESH® AND SEALFRESH™ SERIES
Maintain high-quality feed throughout the silage pile with little to no dry-matter losses, resulting in decreased labor hours to remove and dispose of rotten or low-quality feed.
Prevent oxygen from reaching the pile to maximize feed freshness for high-quality palatable feed resulting in higher yields in milk production for dairy producers, and maximized weight gain for cattle producers.
RAVEN BARRIER FUMIGATION FILMS – VAPORSAFE® SERIES
An extremely low mass transfer coefficient (MTC) reduces the amount of chemical fumigants needed (based on gallons per acre) by as much as 10% to 50%, while maintaining efficacy and providing growers with repeatable and reliable performance along with the control of fungal diseases and weeds, thus lowering overall production costs.
Increases planting acres by lowering the EPA and CDPR* buffer zone restrictions by an impressive 60% gain in planting acres over standard fumigation films, and even further gains up to 80% with the use of reduced fumigant rates. *CDPR (California Department of Pesticide Regulation)
RAVEN GRAIN COVER SOLUTIONS – GRAINMAX® AND PROTECTOR™ SERIES
Reinforced grain cover systems for temporary storage protect the grain from damaging weather and rains until it can transported and sold at market. Raven reinforced covers provide the durability and longevity to preserve crops and are U.V. stabilized to last and can be reused with proper care.
Raven containment solutions help protect Earth’s resources through a series of high-performance geomembrane liners and covers to prevent the contamination of hazardous chemicals in liquid, solid, gas, and odors. Raven advanced gas barrier geomembranes effectively control the migration of radon, methane, and hazardous VOCs.
RAVEN ADVANCED GAS BARRIER GEOMEMBRANES – ABSOLUTE BARRIER® SERIES | DURA-SKRIM® SERIES
Raven 40-60 mil gas barrier covers are highly effective in buried landfill cap applications, and are 50 to 400 times less permeable to VOCs than standard 80 mil HDPE geomembranes. Leachate contaminants and landfill odors/gases in municipal and hazardous waste landfills can migrate through standard HDPE contributing to both atmospheric and groundwater contaminations.
Reinforced geomembranes can outperform thicker non-reinforced membranes at only 60% of the mil thickness saving raw resources, energy consumption, transportation, and installation cost.
Quality built prefabricated geomembrane panels save considerable time on site by significantly decreasing the number of weather exposed installation days resulting in reduced project costs. With proper planning and custom designed panel layouts, over 80% of field seaming can be eliminated and replaced with a higher quality factory certified seam produced in a controlled environment.
Truck traffic can be reduced by up to 95% when using geosynthetic systems, resulting in a smaller carbon footprint and safer work environment. Geosynthetics are helping substantially reduce the carbon footprint of construction, securing the environment, and extending the economic and environmental performance of infrastructures
ENERGY – GAS & OIL INDUSTRY
RAVEN ENERGY CONTAINMENT SOLUTIONS – ABSOLUTE BARRIER® SERIES | DURA-SKRIM® SERIES | HYDRAFLEX® SERIES
Textured geomembranes feature a grip surface for traction and provide jobsite safety from slips and falls, while also protecting the ground from hazardous spills as a containment oilfield pad liner.
Textured geomembranes require a smaller site footprint by allowing for steeper slope designs in containment and covering applications.
Reinforced and non-reinforced geomembranes provide environmental protection during the oil and gas drilling process, by safeguarding our drinking water—one of our most valuable natural resources.
RAVEN INDUSTRIAL CONTAINMENT SOLUTIONS – FLEXFORM® SERIES | DURA-SKRIM® SERIES
Complex multi-layer oxygen barrier film and sheeting preserves the quality of wine and other oxygen sensitive liquids during transportation in large flexitank cargo containers. Raven linings preserve the raw value of these sensitive cargos, and are far superior in blocking oxygen transmission over standard polyethylene linings.
Lightweight reinforced covers protect moisture sensitive lumber and wood products during railcar transportation by preventing moisture and climate conditions from reaching the cargo.
RAVEN CONSTRUCTION SOLUTIONS – VAPORBLOCK® SERIES | DURA-SKRIM® SERIES
Multi-layer gas and moisture barriers are used in under-concrete-slab installations to prevent harmful gas and vapor migration, including radon, methane, and VOCs in residential and commercial buildings to protect indoor air quality.
High performance vapor barriers are used in under-concrete-slab applications to protect the building envelop from moisture migration preventing the development of damaging mold and mildew while protecting indoor air quality.
Lightweight reinforced enclosure films save time and energy on the jobsite by allowing interior climate control, and providing protection from inclement weather.
